Art in a Garden
Thursday 27th – Sunday 30th October 2016
North Canterbury Art Event
Flaxmere, a stunning country garden in North Canterbury is the breathtaking setting for one of New Zealand’s largest outdoor and indoor art exhibitions, Art in a Garden, which is held over four days this October. Around 80 New Zealand artists will exhibit sculpture, paintings, glass, ceramics and jewellery, displayed throughout the garden and inside the property’s barn gallery.
A normally quiet corner of North Canterbury, merely an hour’s drive from Christchurch, will be humming with visitors. This North Canterbury art event provides a unique platform for artists from all around New Zealand to showcase their work, while sharing the beauty of the garden itself and promoting the wider North Canterbury area.
For an art-lover who likes nothing more than looking at paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass and jewellery, it is possibly a dream come true with approximately 85 artists exhibiting their work for sale. A curated selection of artists from our 2015 event included Simon Edwards, Nic Dillon, Helen Perrett, Peter Collis, John Parker, Vaune Mason and many others. Visitors can enjoy the country calm and indulge in inspirational art, with a sip of fine local wine, have a bite of our picnic lunch and listen to great music; making this a memorable destination.
Art in a Garden raises a charitable contribution for the Cancer Society and Amuri St John. The garden has been selected by the NZ Garden Trust as a Garden of National Significance, with a five star rating. Installations are found amongst the formal and informal areas, woodlands, roses, rhododendrons, and NZ native plants.
