An original 'Fencible' settlement established in 1847 by soldiers from England who were brought out to protect nearby Auckland from possible native uprising, Howick became a seaside holiday destination and later a sought-after suburb of Auckland.
Check www.gardenstovisit.co.nz if you are interested in visiting gardens in the area.
