The GardenTapuwae is a high altitude informal country garden in the middle of the Nth Island set among the most beautiful rural settings. Coming north from Auck you take S/H/W 30 at Te Kuiti, travel for 30 km and watch for the signs to the garden after Mangapehi.
Tapuwae was started some 40 years ago and boasts many very mature rhododendrons, camellias, magnolias cherries and many other trees and shrubs. Perennials provide ground cover in spring, gunnera hostas ligularia and primula surround the ponds and bog gardens.
Include views to MT Egmont and MT Ruapehu on a clear day. Arboretum. Water gardens. Many collections of plants including trilliums.
We have peacocks wandering everywhere along with many NZ native birds. The best time for Tapuwae is the spring although summer and autumn are also nice.
We are a garden of Significance with the NZGT View Map
The GardenerHoward and Doff have been on this beautiful piece of land for the past 40 years.
