Overview

Sculpture Northland is scheduled for May 2025

ARTISTS: To apply for 'general' Sculpture Northland, email events@whangareigardens.org.nz or come and see Sally at the Gardens Wednesdays - Fridays. This year, we will have a designated area for cash and carry artwork.

This will be located on our Jacaranda lawn and will have a dedicated point of sale.

All cash and carry artworks must be small and easy to handle and wrap, and have a maximum retail price of $200.

The Gardener

Perfect growing conditions aside, over 20 years of sheer hard work and community dedication to growing Whangārei Quarry Gardens into their current form. The project has been a labour of love for the Northland community, created through the blood, sweat, and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies, and other interest groups. The project also relies on the generosity of sponsors and visitors, so please give what you can.

  • Price
    Here at Whangārei Quarry Gardens, you are welcome to wander and explore at your leisure, entry is by donation which can be made with cash or Eftpos at the Visitor Centre.
  • Parking
    Yes, parking shuttles are available for overflow on the weekends from Kensington Park.
  • Wheelchair Access
    Yes, we have wide gravel paths throughout. Disabled parking is next to the Visitor Centre.
  • Dogs allowed?
    No dogs, smoking or alcohol. This is a Kiwi-friendly site.
  • Cafe/Restaurant available?
    Cafe Opening hours: Wed-Sun 9 am - 3 pm bookings.quail@gmail.com Closed Mondays and Tuesdays Quail Cafe is nestled into the Gardens, overlooking the Waiarohia Stream. Arguably the best cafe in town, and only situated directly off State Highway 1 - making it the convenient choice for travellers. Stop in for a coffee and a stroll through these stunning Gardens. Excellent bathroom facilities and free parking. If you're looking for more of a challenging walk, start at the Gardens and hike to the Quarry Arts centre through the native bush - the tracks are excellent and easy to navigate.
  • Picnics
    Yes, you are welcome to bring your own picnic. 7 tables are available throughout the Gardens - lakeside, under the Jacaranda, the Dell, and our main Picnic area.
  • Children allowed?
    Yes please watch children closely, if they break a sculpture, you have bought it.
  • Toilets?
    In the Visitor's Centre and extra portaloos in the Gardens.
  • Seating
    There are 7 picnic tables, and 12 park benches throughout the gardens to rest and enjoy various garden views.
  • Plants/Sales
    Our gift shop is inside the visitor's centre, near the entrance. There is a gorgeous selection of goodies available for purchase, including locally made arts and crafts, jewellery, garden tools and of course plants! We have pottery by our own Glenda Armiger, brightly coloured woven flax pieces by local artists Wendy Stacy Morrison and Liane Blair, flax creations by Wendy Naepflin, NZ-made 'Twigg' jewellery, vintage stamp jewellery by Tuigirl, gift cards, and locally-made aprons and tote bags. We also carry a small selection of high-quality garden tools from Spear and Jackson. Plants for sale change regularly, so it pays to pop in frequently and keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates
  • Guided Tours
    Guided Walking Tour Approximately 1 hour, for groups of 5 or more people, $15 per person. Golf Cart Tour Our electric golf cart can set up to 5 people. View the Gardens in comfort, ideal for people with limited mobility. There is a $100 flat rate. Bookings essential! email bookings@whangareigardens.org.nz for more info Large Groups If you are bringing a group of 10 or more people, you must contact us at least 1 week before your visit to ensure we can accommodate your group and to arrange pre-payment of your donation.
