Our forty-acre property was originally part of one of the areas old farms. A small section was sold and occupied circa 1970 with plantings of some trees and a few Rhododendrons and Roses. We Purchased the property in 2003 and over the years have expanded the garden significantly.
Our garden was supposed to be a 'hobby' in retirement, but it has gone beyond that and just keeps expanding. We have created a themed garden with specific aspects based on plants and garden styles from around the world, thereby giving visitors a unique and rewarding experience.
'Chantecler's' gardens are complimented by mature Redwood, Oak, Beech, Ash, Rowan, Maple, Willow, Birch and many other trees including exotic Conifer. The driveway is lined with Liquid Amber which displays amazing colours in Autumn. The backdrop of the garden is the magnificent Remarkables mountain range.
In what is arguably the most beautiful area of New Zealand, 'Chantecler' is truly a garden for "all seasons" with Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter each displaying unique characteristics.
Mike and Maureen Henry bought the property in 2003. It was part of the historical Glenpanel farm so the bones of the garden in the form of mature trees were there for us. We have totally developed the 12 acres of the garden since 2003.
'Chantecler' is a twelve-acre garden situated midway between Queenstown and Arrowtown in Central Otago, New Zealand.
We also have a large Vegetable garden, Orchard, Berry garden and Walnut and Chestnut trees producing ample food for our large family. Our Animals include Alpacas, Fallow Deer, Sheep and Chickens.
