Clachanburn Garden

316 Puketoi Runs Rd, Puketoi 9398, New Zealand

Overview

Jane Falconer welcomes you to her rambling country garden, set in the stark beauty of the Maniototo. The lawns and borders roll gracefully away from the house to two large ponds with rugged hills to one side and the distant mountains beyond, giving an impression of a lush oasis in the heat and dry of Central Otago. Experience a Garden tour.

Two large ponds have been developed and natural materials have been used throughout - schist stone and hardwood timbers integrate with the surrounding landscape. Planting of the sweeping borders that curl away from the house is restrained and the colours - blues, greys and shades of red - travel into the distant rural panorama. The stream passes through the heart of the garden, its margins well-clothed with a variety of damp-loving plants, edges of the creek are stone-lined with rocks brought in from the surrounding hills.  An arching natural stone bridge and a boat shed on the lower pond are special features at Clachanburn.

The Gardener

Jane enjoys sharing her country garden and cottage with visitors. Her knowledge of gardening has developed over a lifetime. Although you may think she has gardened in this area under her control, she is quick to point out that the climate is extreme and keeps her on her toes. Once a Home Economics teacher, her skills in the kitchen are enjoyed by many visitors who take the opportunity to enjoy her country cuisine featuring homegrown produce. Her produce and craft shop features a classic range of high-quality products designed by Jane.
