Longwood Gardens was the millennium project for Yvonne & Peter Long. While the builders were building their new home in 2000, the Longs were busy planting and planning the gardens, What used to be a horse paddock with 15 pine trees at the back of the 3.5-acre property, it has been transformed into the beautiful gardens they are today.
The contractors who were excavating the foundations showed Yvonne how to operate the heavy machines they were using, so she took a couple of days off work and proceeded to dig the pond, then moved piles of dirt to the front of the section for the two raised garden beds.
Peter & Yvonne love gardening, Peter doing the heavy tasks and taking care of the lawns while Yvonne content to pull weeds and take care of the roses. Peter often arriving home with several new plants without a clue where they will fit in and Yvonne juggling to find a new home for the new arrivals.
3.5 acres, allow 2-3 hours for your visit.
Yvonne's art can also be seen here on gardens to visit.
"I have a Facebook page, Yvonne Long Artist. Not too sure what to say about my art, but I love experimenting with different materials. Recycling glossy junk mail for paper mache and shredding waste paper from work for paper pulp creates these unique pieces."
