The TreeChurch, Ohaupo, is a living, breathing structure designed to be a place of interest and contemplation.
The TreeChurch inspires feelings of peace, contemplation, joy and solace for many who visit. The Gardens include a labyrinth, European and English-inspired collections, a Monet-style pond and perennial flower gardens.
Trees used in the construction of the Church are Alnus Imperialis – Cut Leaf Alder (Roof Canopy), Purple Dodonaea – Ake Ake (Walls), Camelia Black Tie, Acer Globosum, Thuja Pyramidalis.
A selection of Oaks, Maples, Alders, Ginkgos, Beech, Poplars, Taxodium, and Nyssa grace the Gardens. Many were placed using a Tree Spade to create a mature garden relatively quickly.
Barry Cox created the TreeChurch. It combines his love of church architecture and trees to make a living, breathing chapel. In mid-2020, Chris and Bev Gatenby purchased the TreeChurch and today are carrying on the legacy of this remarkable place. Chris had previously worked with Barry for four years looking after the TreeChurch and the Gardens.

Wedding venue hire is by appointment only – please Contact Us for a booking. Two lovely accommodation rooms looking over the gardens can also be booked for weddings and other events.
The TreeChurch and Gardens may also be booked for formal events such as naming ceremonies, anniversary celebrations, funerals and other special occasions. The TreeChurch seats 100 people.
There are two boutique rooms available for accommodation at the TreeChurch and Gardens. The accommodation can be booked either via our website or through contacting info@treechurch.co.nz
Both rooms are upstairs with lovely views over the gardens. Both are spacious with that touch of luxury.
During your stay, you will have full access to the TreeChurch and Gardens – Make the most of them with a sunset or sunrise walk in the gardens or a quiet time in the TreeChurch.
You may spot us working in the gardens while you are here. Do stop and chat with us about the gardens.
Check-in is generally after 3 p.m. and check-out is generally by 10 a.m., though we can often provide some flexibility in these times.
Adults 20, Children (under 14 yrs) $10, Infant (under 5 years) Free, Family of 4 or more (based on 2 adults and 2 or more children) $50,.
All prices include GST. Pay by Eftpos or Cash at the Gardens. We can also provide gift cards for admission to the TreeChurch.
The Gantry is an indoor venue set in the grounds of the beautiful TreeChurch and Gardens.
It is a stunning setting for corporate, community and family events. Bookings can be for up to 100 people and up to 9 p.m. in the evening.
The TreeChurch and Gardens can be booked for small funerals, memorials, naming ceremonies, concerts and other formal events. Contact us to enquire about a booking. If you have an idea for some other special event in the TreeChurch and Gardens, contact us. We are keen to hear your ideas.
