The garden features over 80 varieties of trees and impressive plant collections, including magnolias, bulbs, hydrangeas, conifers, hostas, perennials, rhododendrons, roses, clivias, irises, maples, hellebores, agaves and aloes and is host to an incredible range of birds. Woven throughout Villa Toscana is a unique sense of playfulness. Its design is a harmonious blend of signature plants, captivating artworks, architectural spaces and craftsmanship.

Together, these elements combine to create a garden that is both intriguing and charming. This hillside garden is a place where you can find solace, rest and an uplifting connection with the natural world. Perfect for small groups and individuals, providing a unique, immersive experience - set within a serene and welcoming environment.

The garden is open by guided tour only.

The Gardener

Jenny Oakley, a pioneer and entrepreneur, has been transforming since 2002, these once neglected hillside paddocks into a garden that reflects her love of nature, art and sustainability. Inspired by her many travels and missions to explore ancient antiquities, civilisations and landscapes, she has sustained a passionate commitment to manifest her vision for the garden. Thus, creating a legacy that will protect this stunning part of the Christchurch landscape – forever.

Garden Size

4.6 hectares made up of interlinked garden spaces, which materialise unexpectedly - as you walk the myriad of connecting pathways.

    Price for Premium guided tour, on application, via the website.

  • Parking

    Close to the 210 Moncks Spur Road Entrance.

  • Wheelchair Access

    Unfortunately, there are no areas of the garden that are suitable for wheelchairs. Villa Toscana is a hillside garden and has a network of pathways and steps. The tours can be adapted to suit participants and their requirements. Jenny can advise you on offerings and site conditions.

  • Dogs allowed?

    We regret no dogs can be admitted due to our birdlife and resident cat.

  • Food available?

    Garden tours include refreshments and a High Tea.

  • Children allowed?

    Children over 12 only.

  • Toilets?

    There are two toilet locations within the garden.

  • Seating

    There are many seating areas located throughout the garden, including an Italian Pavilion, schist Stone Cottage and a Country Cabin.

  • Guided Tours

    The garden is open by guided tour only.
