Red Oak is a 2.5-acre garden with mature oak and walnut trees scattered throughout the garden providing a canopy for the array of colourful beds of rhodos, hydrangeas, hostas, roses, daylilies, and callies just to name a few! All these plants have to survive our challenging hot, dry windy summers. The limestone walls built in the 1900s have also been retained in the garden. With the mostly flat terrain, it has enabled a large variety of easy walking avenues and vistas few points to sit and enjoy the tranquillity and peaceful surroundings .
The garden surrounds a Glen Ida schist homestead built in 2007 on the original site of the 1900 homestead and has wonderful views of most of the garden and surrounding limestone hills as your backdrop. The Weka Pass Train can also be seen meandering through the pass.
